Endodontics is the part of dentistry that deals with root canal treatment. Such treatment is most often required in complicated caries. Basically, tooth decay affects only the enamel and dentin of the tooth, but if the infection reaches the pulp (nerve) of the tooth, it turns into pulpitis. And if the infection goes outside the tooth, the diagnosis becomes periodontitis – the presence of an abscess (granuloma), which is visible on an X-ray.

Treatment is carried out in several stages. First, the tooth is opened with a local anesthetic and the contents of the root canals are removed. Next, determine their length. Next, the root canals are cleaned and shaped. In the final stage, they are filled with special root canal filling pastes and the defect caused by tooth decay is restored by obturation (filling). Sometimes, with very large fillings, a crown may need to be made to protect the tooth from breaking. Treated according to this protocol, the teeth survive many more years in the mouth.

Prophylactic examination is the most effective way to avoid pulpitis treatment. Don’t ignore it! Failure to treat pulpitis leads to the development of gangrene, granulomas, facial edema, and intoxication.
